Cheryl Hines Shares Big Complaint About The View Interview

Cheryl Hines and the Tense Discussion on The View

Cheryl Hines, known for her role in Curb Your Enthusiasm, recently appeared on The View to promote her book Unscripted. However, the conversation quickly shifted to her husband, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who serves as the US Secretary of Health and Human Services.

Hines had hoped to focus on her book, but instead, she found herself answering questions about her husband's work. She admitted that the experience was what she expected, but she wished it had been more personal. When asked about the tense exchange that occurred during the show, Hines said, "I was actually hoping that it was going to be more personal on The View but it was what it was." She added, "They just wanted to grill me about Bobby."

During the discussion, Billy Bush, one of the hosts, asked Hines if she could tell when someone hadn’t read her book. She replied, "Yes, I don't think the ladies on The View asked me one question about the book. But, you know, that's ok."

A Heated Exchange with Sunny Hostin

The conversation took a fiery turn when Hines faced off against Sunny Hostin, 56, who was particularly critical of Hines' husband. Hostin accused Kennedy of being the least qualified head of health the US has ever had. In response, Hines defended her husband, highlighting his long career in suing big corporations over health issues.

She mentioned that Kennedy was part of the team that sued Monsanto over Roundup, a pesticide linked to cancer, and also sued Dupont and Exxon for causing health problems. "He has dedicated his career to suing big corporations because of toxins that have been affecting people's health," she said.

Hostin retorted, "The problem, respectfully, is that your husband is the least qualified Department of Health and Human Services head that we've had in history." Hines responded, "Less qualified than an economist?" to which Hostin replied, "I think he is less qualified."

Hostin continued, "He has also spread a lot of misinformation, a lot of chaos, a lot of confusion," adding that it was a dangerous situation. "And I think it's just a very dangerous thing. I say it with the utmost respect."

Hines tried to counter by bringing up the topic of the pandemic, but before she could finish, Hostin interjected, "He's connected circumcision to autism." Frustrated, Hines snapped, "May I finish?"

Sara Haines Praises Cheryl Hines

Despite the tension, co-host Sara Haines praised Hines for appearing on the show. She spoke about the importance of inviting guests with differing viewpoints. "I think she did a great job," Hines said. "She was coming to a table where her husband has been a hot topic for a long time, and so I commended her for just showing up."

Haines also noted that Hines’ comedic sense helped ease the pressure during the tough questions. "I had some people write me and say, 'you went easy on her Sara, why didn't you go harder?' I don't think people always appreciate the ensemble of a table."

She emphasized that the show aims to cover a wide range of topics and maintain balance. "We want people at our table. We want people with different views at our table, and there's points where you're in a group and you watch things getting tense then you try and keep the balance of what the producers' intentions were which is to cover a lot of stuff."
