Regine's Nieces Launch P-Pop Group DNA

Introduction to DNA: The New P-Pop Girl Group

MANILA, Philippines — ABS-CBN has officially introduced a new P-pop girl group called DNA. The group recently launched its debut single titled "Don't Ask Me Why" under the StarPop record label. This marks a significant moment for the music industry in the Philippines as DNA aims to bring fresh energy and unique talent to the scene.

The Members of DNA

The three-member group consists of sisters Tasha, Julia, and Ezri. These young women share a strong musical bond as they are the daughters of renowned composer and musical director Raul Mitra and singer Cacai Velasquez-Mitra. Their family background in music has undoubtedly influenced their passion and dedication to their craft.

Their aunt, OPM icon Regine Velasquez-Alcasid, played a crucial role in encouraging them to form a group. She recognized their shared love for music and arts and supported their aspirations.

Early Experiences and Inspirations

In a video uploaded on Star Magic's YouTube channel, Julia shared some of their early experiences. "Even from a young age we liked performing. We did theater workshops and we watched a lot of 'America's Next Top Model' so we had fashion shows and they would take pictures of us," she said. This early exposure to performance and fashion helped shape their artistic identities.

Ezri mentioned that during the time when the Wonder Girls' "Nobody" was at its peak popularity, second-generation K-pop became a big inspiration for them. This influence is evident in their music and style, which blends elements of both local and international trends.

Overcoming Challenges

Despite their sisterly bond, the members of DNA faced several challenges before they could fully embrace their roles as a group. Tasha shared that the process of becoming comfortable performing together was a long and difficult one. "There were a lot of tears, a lot of arguments," she admitted. However, these struggles ultimately strengthened their relationship and commitment to each other.

The Debut Single: "Don't Ask Me Why"

"Don't Ask Me Why" is the debut single of DNA. It was composed by Ezri, who also served as the producer. The song is an anthem of self-expression, encouraging listeners to stay true to themselves despite others' opinions. This message resonates with the group's values and their desire to inspire their audience.

Signing with Star Magic

Tasha, Julia, and Ezri signed a management contract with Star Magic last July. They were initially introduced as the Mitra sisters. This partnership with Star Magic has provided them with the platform and support needed to launch their careers in the music industry.

Previous Performances

Before their official debut, the trio showcased their powerful harmonies and fresh energy during guest performances. They participated in Regine and Vice Ganda's "SUPERDIVAS" concert and also appeared on the Sunday noontime variety show "ASAP." These performances allowed them to gain valuable experience and exposure.

Looking Ahead

As DNA continues to grow and evolve, they are poised to make a significant impact on the P-pop scene. With their unique sound, strong family support, and determination, they are well on their way to achieving great success. Their journey is just beginning, and fans can expect more exciting developments from this talented group in the future.
