Matildas Star and Partner Welcome First Child
Emily Van Egmond, one of the standout players of the Matildas, and her partner Kat have officially welcomed their first child into the world. The couple made the exciting announcement on Instagram, sharing the news with their fans and followers. They revealed that they had a baby girl, whom they named Maddix Louise Van Egmond.
The post featured several touching photos of the couple in the hospital with their newborn, including Emily gently tucking Maddix into her crib. Their message to their followers read: “Welcome to the world, Maddix Louise Van Egmond.”
The comments section of the post was filled with messages of congratulations from Van Egmond’s teammates in the Matildas. Sam Kerr, for instance, sent three heart emojis, while Caitlin Foord wrote, “The princess is here.” Mackenzie Arnold commented, “We love Maddix so much,” and Steph Catley added, “Gorgeous girl.”
Kristie Mewis, Kerr’s fiancĂ©e, also shared her excitement with a “Wahhhh!! Congrats you guys” message. England’s goalkeeper Carly Telford expressed her joy, saying, “This is just the best thing ever. She’s gonna be so loved!! Congrats guys xxx.” Alanna Kennedy called the baby “a little princess,” and the official Matildas Instagram account posted, “Congratulations on the arrival of your beautiful baby girl!”
Emily and Kat publicly announced their pregnancy back in April, just months after they got married in a stunning ceremony at the Krinklewood Estate in New South Wales’ Hunter Valley. This makes them part of a growing list of Matildas stars who have become new parents recently. For example, Tameka Yallop and her wife Kirsty, a former New Zealand international, celebrated the birth of their second daughter earlier this month.
Kat and Emily initially shared the news of their pregnancy in April. Then, in August, they took to social media again to reveal the gender of their baby—but things didn’t go as planned. They posted several images of themselves in a black-and-white filter, seemingly cutting a cake. Kat explained in the comments that there was an error in their gender test, which led them to spend 16 weeks picking a name, buying clothes, and sharing the news before discovering the truth. “It makes for a good story now!” she added. “We love these moments, but some details we want to keep to ourselves. Strongly advise against any early gender blood tests!”
Van Egmond is currently playing in England, having moved from Birmingham City to Leicester earlier this year. Throughout her career, she has made a significant impact on the field, earning 163 caps for the Matildas and scoring 32 goals for the team. In domestic football, she has played across the globe, representing clubs such as Wolsfburg in Europe, and the Chicago Red Stars, San Diego Wave, and Orlando Pride in the United States, as well as West Ham in England.

What are the stories behind the Matildas' most recent celebrations? How did the team react to Emily Van Egmond's new chapter as a mother? What challenges do athletes face when transitioning into parenthood? And how have other Matildas players like Sam Kerr and Kristie Mewis navigated similar experiences? These questions continue to spark conversations among fans and followers alike.
