Pinky Amador Slams Film "Quezon" for Misusing History and Distorting Heritage
A Personal Stand Against Historical Misrepresentation
Actress Pinky Amador recently voiced her strong disapproval of Jerrold Tarog’s film "Quezon," which she believes presents only a partial view of the former president’s story. As the granddaughter of Nini Angara Quezon Avanceña, the daughter of President Manuel L. Quezon, Amador felt deeply affected by the movie's portrayal of her family's legacy.

Amador supported her relative Ricky Quezon-Avanceña, who had previously confronted the filmmakers over the movie’s depiction of the late president. She accused the creators of “weaponizing history” by blending fiction and satire in an “educational” film. Despite her critique, Amador clarified that she is not discouraging viewers from watching the movie.
In a post on Instagram, Amador expressed her disappointment with the film, which she believes unfairly depicted the late president. She shared a video from a talkback session earlier this month showing her relative Ricky Quezon-Avanceña’s heated exchange with the film’s cast and creators.
The issue felt deeply personal to Amador, as she mentioned that her Lola, the family matriarch, passed away in 2021 at the age of 100. She questioned whether the producers would have the audacity to show the film to her if she were still alive, suggesting it might have caused her great distress.
While acknowledging the filmmakers’ creative freedom, Amador reminded them of their responsibility. “Artistic freedom does not excuse you from artistic responsibility,” she wrote. She also pointed out that they never questioned all the negative traits they exploited in the film.
Amador criticized the film’s endorsement by the Department of Education, arguing that its mixture of satire and historical fiction blurred the line between fact and storytelling. “You are weaponizing history according to your narrative for sales,” she stated, warning that many viewers might not distinguish fiction from fact.
She added, “We are in an educational crisis… showing only one side isn’t just poor storytelling—it’s miseducation.” Although she admitted her statements might strain professional ties, she said she spoke out for her family’s legacy: “I am doing this for my Lola and great grand uncle who are no longer here to defend themselves.”
Pinky Amador is a Filipino actress, singer, commercial model, and TV host. Some of her most recent high-profile projects include “La Luna Sangre,” “Sahaya,” “Anak ni Waray vs. Anak ni Biday,” and “Abot-Kamay na Pangarap.”
In a previous report, Sunshine Dizon responded to a basher who compared her with Pinky Amador. The basher also insulted Sunshine for her legal case and the status of her career. In her response, Sunshine said she is happy for Pinky and urged the basher to stop wasting their time on her. As for her legal case, Shine stressed that the basher doesn’t know the whole story.
Years ago, Pinky Amador went viral after she got caught on video shouting and cursing at employees of a hotel in Makati for accepting OFWs and allegedly placing the tenants’ health in danger. Korina Sanchez interviewed the controversial actress in her Kapamilya program “Rated K.” The actress explained that she got extremely emotional while confronting the hotel employees because she could not afford to get sick since she lives alone. According to Pinky, she has nothing against OFWs but argued that the tenants should have been made aware of the travel history of the OFWs to protect their health.
