Star Stumbles into Hobbiton Wedding
A Once-in-a-Lifetime Surprise at a Hobbit-Themed Wedding
Elijah Wood, best known for his role as Frodo in Peter Jackson’s iconic Lord of the Rings trilogy, recently made a memorable appearance at a wedding in New Zealand. The event took place on the famous Shire set, which is part of the Hobbiton Movie Set, bringing the fantasy world of Middle Earth to life for a lucky couple.
In a video posted on the official TikTok account of Hobbiton, Wood was seen arriving at the wedding venue, where the bride and groom stood at an altar built in front of one of the iconic Hobbit holes. The couple and their guests were all dressed in costumes inspired by Tolkien’s world, creating a magical atmosphere that perfectly matched the setting.
Wood, however, stood out from the crowd with his casual outfit of a windbreaker and jeans. As he approached the end of the aisle, the bride and groom were visibly shocked, exclaiming, “Oh my God.” The actor then posed for photos with the couple, expressing his delight: “This is amazing, and everyone is dressed as hobbits!”
After capturing some memorable moments, Wood quickly left the event, ensuring the focus remained on the newlyweds. The groom expressed his gratitude as Wood departed, highlighting the special nature of the day.

The wedding was clearly a dream come true for the couple, who chose the Hobbiton set as their venue to celebrate their shared love for Tolkien’s universe. While the exact reason for Wood’s involvement remains unclear, it is speculated that he might be in New Zealand for filming The Hunt for Gollum.
Fans of The Lord of the Rings were quick to react to the video online. One Instagram user, Sugrdaisee, mentioned that the photographer spotted Wood and invited him to join the event. “He didn’t want to impose, but she assured them the couple would love it,” they wrote.
Isabellemarielouise shared her excitement, saying, “Love the idea of him just regularly casually visiting Hobiton whenever 🧙♀️😄.” Matthew_barker_writer also commented, “If anything could possibly make your wedding day just that bit more than perfect, it would be that! And what a location to be married in the first place! ❤️❤️❤️❤️.”
Lijeyeshaveit added, “This is so pure. I would have been flipping out. Elijah is the sweetest!”
The Legacy of Hobbiton
When the Lord of the Rings trilogy wrapped up in 2000, there were initial plans to dismantle the set. However, the decision to preserve the site came after tourist interest grew significantly. Initially, 39 Hobbit Holes were built across the 12-acre plot, but many were demolished. Only 17 remained when the site became an official attraction in 2002, offering guided tours to visitors.
In 2009, Peter Jackson returned to the location to film The Hobbit trilogy, adding more set pieces. Today, 44 Hobbit Holes remain standing, allowing fans to experience the magic of Middle Earth firsthand.
