Aubrey Miles and Troy Montero's 18-Year Wedding Journey Revealed

The Long Journey to Marriage

Aubrey Miles and Troy Montero have always been a couple that has captured the hearts of many. Their journey together, however, has not been without its unique twists and turns. In a recent conversation with PhilSTAR L!fe, the actress shared some insights into their relationship, particularly why it took them 18 years to get married.

Miles explained that they never really counted the years they spent together. "We celebrated anniversaries until 10 years, and then we realized, we just want to travel every year when it’s that time again," she said. "We’re very happy with everything and we weren't really looking for a change."

She added, "At some point, we just forgot that we weren’t married yet!" According to her, Troy proposed to her, and he felt that she was ready to take the next step. "It’s all about timing and really being at the same mental state."

Troy also shared his perspective on their long engagement. He mentioned that there wasn't any big reason for the wait. "We were already a family, already partners in every way that mattered. We didn’t want to rush into marriage just to meet expectations. After 18 years, we finally did it. It wasn’t about completing something—it was more about celebrating what we already had with our kids," he said.

A Love Story That Started With a Matchmaker

The couple became a part of each other's lives in early 2000, thanks to the efforts of Kris Aquino, who played matchmaker. This information was mentioned by Boy Abunda in his column. Since then, the couple has grown their family, welcoming son Hunter, 17, and daughter Rocky, 6.

Miles also has an older son, Maurie, 24, from a previous relationship with actor JP Obligacion.

Montero proposed to Miles in March 2022 during a trip to Boracay. Before that, the couple had already discussed getting married. According to an interview that Miles gave during a guesting for talk show Magandang Buhay, they had planned to hold an intimate wedding in Batanes in 2020, but the pandemic forced them to put their plans on hold.

They finally tied the knot in June 2022 at the Mandaluyong City Hall, presided by then Mandaluyong Mayor Carmelita Abalos.

Reflections on Three Years of Marriage

In an Instagram post on Oct. 27, Miles opened up about what it's like to be married for three years. "To be honest, I don't feel any difference. We made sure at nag-double check pa bago magpakasal. It took us 17 years bago magpakasal," wrote Miles in her post. Later on, she clarified to L!fe that they waited 18 years, not 17, before getting married.

Miles also shared her thoughts on the misconception that marriage is the end of a relationship. "Sabi nila iba 'pag kasal na at magboyfriend palang, wrong mentality for me. Bakit kaya ganun," added Miles.

"I know every couple is different but in marriage we only have one goal: 'For better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, till death do us part,'" she wrote.

The comments section had many of the couple's friends sending congratulations and giving support, including Patricia Javier, Jugs Jugueta, Iza Calzado, Teresa Loyzaga, and Coney Reyes.
