Floyd Myers Jr. of *Fresh Prince* passes away at 42
Floyd Roger Myers Jr., who became widely recognized for his role in The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, has passed away at the age of 42. The American actor succumbed to a heart attack at his home in Maryland early on Wednesday morning. His mother, Renee Trice, confirmed the news to TMZ, stating that her son had experienced three heart attacks over the past three years.
Myers Jr. began his acting career as a child star, most notably portraying a young Will Smith in an episode of the sitcom that aired in 1992. Later that same year, he appeared as a young Marlon Jackson in The Jacksons: An American Dream, a television movie that chronicled the rise of the iconic Jackson family to musical fame. In 2000, he also made an appearance in an episode of the drama series Young Americans.
A GoFundMe campaign initiated by his sister, Tyree Trice, to assist with funeral costs revealed that Myers Jr. was also a father of four. The campaign paid tribute to him, describing him as a "devoted father, loving brother, and friend whose kindness, laughter, and warmth touched everyone he met." It added, "Roger leaves behind his four beautiful children — Taelyn, Kinsley, Tyler, and Knox — and our loving family is now facing the unimaginable loss of someone who meant everything to us."
On Facebook, his mother shared her grief, writing, "This is not supposed to be so."
In addition, his organization posted a message: "RIP to our good brother @rocwonder one of our co-founders. Gone but never will be forgotten. The mission will continue in your honor. Next men’s meeting will be one for the books like we talked about! Love you bro, rest easy, big bro will take it from here."
Two years ago, Myers Jr., who had retired from acting in 2000, publicly disclosed that he had been in a coma. He shared a photo of himself in a hospital bed, stating, "Just a week ago I was in a coma fighting for my life!" He then expressed his gratitude, saying, "The way my GOD works though. I’m beyond blessed and grateful to be alive!"
