Gladys Reyes Shines in Her First Musical Lead

A Night of Love and Celebration

On October 23, the SM Megamall Cinemas became the center of attention as Gladys Reyes graced the premiere of her latest film, “The Heart of Music.” The event was a celebration of love, lights, and fanfare, with Reyes taking center stage in a night that marked a significant milestone in her illustrious career.

Reyes, an award-winning actress known for her powerful kontrabida roles across decades of film and television, radiated with joy and gratitude. This moment was not just about the recognition she received but also about the new challenges she embraced. It was her first lead role in a full-length musical, a rare and exciting opportunity for the seasoned actress who admits to being more of a "videoke singer" at best.

Her journey in the entertainment industry has been remarkable. From her breakout role as the fierce and unforgettable Clara in the iconic series “Mara Clara,” Reyes has become one of the most recognized villains and versatile actresses in Philippine entertainment. However, in “The Heart of Music,” she steps into a completely different role — that of Madonna, a kind-hearted nanny whose story is told through song.

This film presented a unique challenge for Reyes, asking her to sing, lead, and hold the spotlight all at once. And she did it with grace and charm, beaming through photo opportunities, happily posing for selfies, and embracing fans and castmates with the warmth of someone who appreciates a career that continues to evolve.

A Star-Studded Cast

The premiere was attended by several co-stars who played pivotal roles in the film. Isay Alvarez and Robert Sena portrayed the parents of Reyes' character's wards, while Jon Lucas, Angel Guardian, Sean Lucas, Elijah Alejo, Angel Laco, and Stanley Abuloc brought their talents to the screen. The child actors Noreen (Britney) and Markhy (Justine) played the siblings at the heart of the story, adding a touch of innocence and authenticity to the film.

Other notable attendees included Jopay Paguia, Joshua Zamora, Rey “PJ” Abellana, Marissa Sanchez, Berna Cabrera, Hasna Cabral, Angelica Bertola, and Roven Alejandro, all celebrating the ensemble spirit of the film.

A Story Told Through Music

Directed by Paolo Bertola and produced by Cube Studios, “The Heart of Music” tells the story of the Riviera family, whose love, loss, and longing are expressed through 16 original songs. Written by Mario Alaman and with music direction by Mandi Ferrer, the film aims to uplift Filipino values through the healing power of music.

The film is set to open in cinemas nationwide on December 10, promising to captivate audiences with its heartfelt storytelling and vibrant musical numbers. For Gladys Reyes, this project represents not only a new chapter in her career but also a testament to her enduring talent and versatility as an actress.
