Michelle Keegan Eyes Hollywood Starring Role as Reese Witherspoon Takes Notice

Michelle Keegan Eyes Hollywood Opportunity After Fool Me Once Success

Michelle Keegan, the former Coronation Street star, is reportedly in talks for her first Hollywood film role following the massive success of the Netflix series Fool Me Once. The 38-year-old actress could be set to star in the film adaptation of a new novel by Reese Witherspoon and Harlan Coben titled Gone Before Goodbye.

The novel, which is a crime thriller, has already generated significant buzz. Harlan Coben, who previously adapted his own novel Fool Me Once into a successful series, has been working closely with Reese Witherspoon on this new project. According to a source, Harlan has been vocal about his admiration for Michelle and believes she would be perfect for the lead role of Maggie McCabe, a combat surgeon.

The source shared details with The Sun, stating:

"Harlan has been singing Michelle's praises to Reese and she was keen to meet her. They got on really well and it was clear Reese was really taken with Michelle. The plan is to turn the book into a film and Michelle is their first choice to take on the role of the lead character, Maggie McCabe."

Maggie McCabe, as described in the novel, is a combat surgeon, a role that Michelle has experience with from her time playing army medic George in the BBC series Our Girl. This background makes her an ideal fit for the part, according to those involved in the project.

A source close to Michelle told The Daily Mail:

"It's early days but Harlan and Reese think Michelle is tailor-made for this role and would love her to come on board when the time is right."

Reese Witherspoon and Harlan Coben have also expressed their excitement about working with Michelle again. During the launch of their new novel at the London Literature Festival, a source revealed that Reese was particularly impressed by Michelle during their meeting.

Michelle took to Instagram to share her excitement about the collaboration, posting a sweet photo with both Reese and Harlan. She captioned the post: “When two geniuses collide… ‘Gone Before Goodbye’ is made! (I can confirm Reese Witherspoon is everything you’d imagined her to be, what a woman).”

Reese responded with a message of her own: “So wonderful to meet you… finally!”

A Successful Collaboration

Michelle’s performance as Maya Stern in Fool Me Once was widely praised, and Harlan Coben has often spoken about how much he enjoyed working with her. He even admitted that he was “kicking himself” after killing off her character in the first season, expressing a desire to bring her back for a sequel.

A source close to Michelle said:

“Michelle and Harlan really bonded during the Fool Me Once filming and he thinks she's amazing. He believes Michelle is a big part of the show's stratospheric success. They were having a real heart-to-heart at the National Television Awards recently and Harlan was saying that he was absolutely gutted that he killed off her character and that he'd do anything to bring her back from the dead so that they can have a much-longed-for sequel.”

Hollywood Dreams?

Following the success of Fool Me Once in 2024, rumors about Michelle’s potential move to Hollywood have been circulating. She has not ruled out the possibility of relocating if the right opportunity comes along.

In an interview with The Guardian, she said:

“I went to America when Mark was out there. Didn't like it. But let's see. If a job comes up… I guess?... I've never thought beyond what I'm doing right at that moment. And I think that's how I live now as well. I don't think in terms of goals. I live in the moment.”

As the film adaptation of Gone Before Goodbye moves forward, fans are eagerly waiting to see if Michelle will take on this new challenge and make her mark in Hollywood.
